Egypt - HDI and GDP

HDI: Human Development Index

The HDI is calculated by:

  1. long and healthy life (life expectancy at birth)
  2. knowledge (adult literacy rate)
  3. decent standard of living (GDP per capita)

HDI rank of Egypt: 112 out of 177 (o.708)

Egypt has a GDP of 4200$ per capita which is higher than the countries with the same HDI (for example Bolivia has mostly the same HDI but a GDP around 2000$ lower)

Economic growth: Increase in capital and consumer goods (country found new resources or a new use of technology)

Economic development: choice of a country to increase its merit goods (such as hospitals), trading-off some capital and consumer goods.

Sustainable development: development of an economy with a neutral effect on the resources (resources must be renewable: no effect on the environment)
